How can I start a business in Spain?
Do you want to start your own business in Spain? It is possible, but you must bear in mind that the costs in Spain are higher than in Belgium. Working independently is not cheap and sometimes quite difficult with the many rules.
To start, you must register with the Agencia Tributaria, or the Spanish tax office, to complete the form stating which activity you are going to perform, personal information, where you are going to perform the activity and which taxes you are going to pay, ..
You must then register in the Régimen Especial de Trabajadores Autónomos (RETA).
You then have 30 days at the tax authorities to register with the social services by completing the TA0521 form with the previously completed form 036, your NIE and your identity card / passport (DNI).
Spain levies a 'tax on economic activities' (Impuesto sobre Actividades Económicas / IAE). This tax must be paid by companies, self-employed persons and professionals with an annual turnover of more than 1 million euros.
The IAE (tax on economic activities) is planned annually, whatever type of business you have. Although most companies do not have to pay these taxes, you must register for LAE because your company must have a tax category and a code number (epigraphs), which are assigned to you when you register.
LAE is likely to be replaced by another tax in the near future, not least because local officials have lost a significant amount of sales since the introduction of the sales limit.
